It just so happens that a few friends were having babies last year, so I started knitting baby things to give away, which means I had lots of practice when I found out I was pregnant. Currently on the needles, I have a baby blanket:

Baby blanket, about 1/8 of the way done (if that).
I’m changing the pattern on this a bit, but I’m hoping it will be the blankie that baby carries with him or her for the first few years of their life. I love the blue of this yarn.
I also have a baby sweater that I started making for two friends who were having a little girl, but then she was born and the sweater wasn’t finished, and now she’s four months old and way too big for it. I decided to finish it for my little girl and I changed up the pattern a bit, using one colour for one side and the opposite sleeve and a different colour for the other sides. I’m in love with this sweater (and Patons’ Bamboo Baby yarn).
Started for friends, but probably too small for her now

While we were in Toronto visiting friends I picked up a great sweater pattern at Lettuce Knit. I have purchased the yarn to make the sweater, which will have rainbow stripes, and it is underway (barely). Having read through the pattern it should be fairly simple to make. Hopefully I’ll have enough yarn left over to make a second one the next size up.

When the Knitty pattern for Miitens went up, I fell in love with them and now with a baby on the way I had a reason to make a pair. They are absolutely adorable.

One of my favourite patterns, which I was introduced to by a friend, is Stitch and Bitch’s Umbilical Cord Hat, which is not only quick and adorable, it is also very easy to make simple changes to the pattern to end up with a great hat for your baby girl that looks like a rose:
