A space for work

April 4th, 2014 | Posted by Amy Boughner in Work

One of the most important things when working from home is having a proper office space. You need a place to switch yourself into office mode, and some days a laptop at the dining room table just isn’t going to do it. (Though some days it will have to).

One of the great benefits of working from home is that you get to design your own space. Mine has windows, a door I can close when I need to, and a desk surrounded by inspiration of my choosing.

Working full time in someone else’s office I didn’t have choice in what my office looked like, what the layout was, what kind of furniture I had. Working from a home office provides a lot of freedom in terms of design, but you don’t want to go overboard.

When I heard about Staples’ #MakeMoreHappen contest I went to their site and started thinking about what I could do to make my space cleaner, more organized and more efficient. I created a pin board with things that would make my space a better work space for me.

Personally I like to have things tidy, but easily accessible. That’s why I have files like this on my wall to hold scratch pads or papers related to something I’m working on.

I also need a desktop organizer for my pens, the post-its I always have around and other odds and ends that you always seem to need but never have nearby.

The contest is open until April 30, anyone can submit their own home office if they think it needs updating, and for people working from home it’s a great opportunity.

Disclosure: I was approached about the #MakeMoreHappen contest but received no compensation for this post.
