The best thing about the family reunion was introducing my little girl to all the family and hearing them respond to her. Almost all the people in attendance had met her before, but not for a few years, so the talkative, outgoing, active kid was new to them.
She played with her cousins, she talked to her aunts and uncles, she gave Great Grandma and Great Grandpa big hugs. She didn’t use either of us as a security blanket, she didn’t have to have one of us close at all times. It was wild.
She swam, she ran around, blew bubbles, played the family beanbag baseball game. She answered all the questions that were thrown at her.
And most importantly, when she was feeling overwhelmed she told me she needed some quiet time.
I was so proud, so very much in awe of her.
