The why and how of it

June 3rd, 2013 | Posted by Amy Boughner in Parenting

A little while ago I requested a book from the library that became very popular with the kid:

When I saw this book and it’s partner –

– on the shelves at a local store I knew that I had to take them home.

I’m trying to encourage the kid’s curiosity – it is one of my favourite traits, and my curiosity has served me well – and her interest in all things scientific and these two books fit the bill nicely. I also really appreciate that they’re separated into category chapters, like nighttime questions and bath time questions.

The kid actually started asking me the whys and hows that she knew were in the books so we could read them again, even though she has a phenomenal memory.

She likes knowing why her belly growls.  ‘Why do I need sleep?’ is especially popular.

The answers to each of the questions is fairly short, so I can tell her to pick out a question and I’ll read the answer when she asks for ‘just one more story mom.’
