It’s International Women’s Day and all morning I’ve been watching videos and reading stories being shared by my online community.
Now, I consider myself pretty well-informed – informed enough to know that there’s a lot going on I don’t know and don’t understand – I also happen to know a lot of people who are well-informed (often about things I don’t think about enough).
Because of all this, I found myself getting angry about some of the things going on in the world on this International Women’s Day, and I’m going to share some of those things:
The Taliban is afraid of educated women and so they’re taking schools away from girls in Pakistan, but the girls are taking that lying down, go watch this slideshow to learn about a foundation raising money to help them get their education, and then get even angrier when you go to the foundation’s website and read that the little girl who raised her voice because she dreams of being a doctor was tracked down and shot in the head for doing that.
Watch this video and learn more about all the restrictions being put on women’s reproductive freedoms in the United States (including access to birth control and abortion in cases where the mother’s life is at risk).
On the other hand, there are thousands and millions of other women around the world who are getting angry too. We’ve made change before, we can do it again.
We can show our daughters that they can do anything:
