Don't just live in the world

Today on Twitter MuppetNewsFlash posted a note saying that tomorrow, Saturday, will make 19 years since Jim Henson died of strep. It’s change because I remember finding out and being very, very sad, and wondering what would happen to all the Muppets.

In honour of Jim, MuppetNewsFlash asked that we take a moment to remember his legacy and to tweet what Jim taught you with the tag #HensonLegacy.

I started trying to think of how to put what Jim Henson taught me,¬†beyond how to count in Spanish,¬†and how to fit it into so few characters. In the end I said this: Jim taught me grown-ups can be silly, it’s okay to laugh at your own jokes & some things only look scary #HensonLegacy

I can’t really explain why Jim Henson and all his creations had such a magnificent impact on me, and I can barely put into words what that impact was, but I know that he was important in my life and my development and I can see from all the responses to #HensonLegacy that I am not alone.

I am also very glad to have a husband that shares my juvenile delight in the Muppets, and I hope to pass it on to my children.
