I have a list of 100 things that I want to do in my life (well, almost 100, there are a few spaces that aren’t filled yet) and I managed to cross off a few this year, including one very special one tonight.
We just got back from the World Junior Hockey Championship game between Canada and the US. A 7-4 win for Canada, who are going for their fifth straight gold this year. Going to this tournament has been one of my dreams for over half my life, it is the hockey I most love to watch. I didn’t think we would be getting the chance to go, even though my hometown is hosting the tournament this year, because they started selling tickets in packages that were way out of our price range. And then, last month, a local grocery chain released a code that gave you access to ticket packages of two games each for a reasonable price. Looking at the list of available games we knew right away that Canada-US was the one we wanted – The New Year’s Eve game between two of the most competitive teams at the tournament.
I was very excited to cross this game and this tournament off my list tonight and even more excited because it was the third thing I managed to cross off my list this year – I also lived in Montreal (#10) and went to see the Cirque de Soleil (#33).
To go along with this life list, I also have a list of 101 things I want to do in the next 1001 days.
I don’t know why making lists helps me so much. I love checking things off, accomplishing the things that I have put down on paper. It helps to focus me, even if I only add something to the list that I know I’ve already done. Maybe it’s just the recognition that the things are important enough to put down on paper.
Happy New Year all.
